Practical Information

The Forum for Research on the Languages of Scotland and Ulster will be holding its triennial conferences between 12 and 14 August 2015 at the University of the West of Scotland Ayr Campus.

Keynote Addresses:

Professor Jeremy Smith (University of Glasgow), Punctuating Older Scots: new developments from a pragmatic perspective

Professor Wilson McLeod (University of Edinburgh), Purism and diversity in contemporary Gaelic

Dr Warren Maguire (University of Edinburgh), Investigating the phonological history of southwest Tyrone English

The conference fee will be £200 (£150 concession). This will include refreshments at breaks and lunch on all three days, as well as a drinks reception on the first evening. Day rates will also be available (Wednesday and Friday £50; Thursday £100). Rooms are £35 per night. They are all ensuite. Details of how to pay the conference fee can be found here. If you prefer, you may pay your fee on arrival.

We regret that no more on-campus accommodation is available.

A map of the Campus can be found here. The conference will be based in the Ayr Campus Building. On-campus accommodation is in the Students’ Residence.

Registration

Registration will take place from 1200 to 1300 on Wednesday 12 August in the Campus Main Reception area. All materials and conference Wi-Fi passwords will be handed out to delegates at this point.

If you are not going to be present on the Wednesday, please make yourself known to one of the conference organisers on your arrival.

Wi-Fi access

Wi-Fi access passwords will be available at the conference reception. If you are arriving the night before, separate provision can be made for you by Students’ Residence staff.

Accommodation

The Residences at Ayr Campus operate a 24 hour reception desk. Guests can collect keys on their arrival and should report to the residences reception desk.

All rooms are single en-suite and are in clusters of 5 or 6 flats sharing a communal kitchen and living area.

On arrival, the Residences Team will deliver further information as required.

The Residences have their own guest car park and are a short five minute walk (or one minute drive) from the main campus.
