By subway / train
The university is well-served by transport links, with the Glasgow subway often the most convenient means of reaching the campus. The closest subway station for the Hilton Grosvenor is Hillhead, and there is approximately a five-minute walk from the subway to the hotel. Turn right when leaving the subway station, and continue up Byres Road. The entrance to the hotel is across the road, past Waitrose.
If arriving in Glasgow by train, both Glasgow Queen Street station and Glasgow Central station are close to subway stops. If arriving at Queen Street station, take the exit to Dundas Street (to the right when leaving upper-level platforms) and the entrance to Buchanan Street subway station is immediately opposite the exit. If arriving at Glasgow Central station, exit onto Gordon Street (through the iron-gated main station entrance), turn right, and walk until Gordon Street ends at Buchanan Street. From here, either turn left for Buchanan Street subway at the top of the hill, or right for St Enoch subway at the bottom of the hill. Please see http://www.spt.co.uk/subway/ for information on timetables and stops
By plane
The most direct way to get to the West End from Glasgow Airport is by taxi. Taxis are available at a rank outside the terminal building, and cost approximately £25 to the university area. Ordering a taxi by phone will usually result in a cheaper fare. Two possibilities are West End Radio Cars (0141 954 2000) who provide a flat-rate service between the airport and addresses in the West End, and Glasgow taxis (0141 429 7070).
Alternatively, a bus service runs from the airport to Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station and costs £8 single or £12 open return (see https://www.glasgowairport.com/to-and-from/bus/) From the bus station, it is possible either to get another bus to the West End, or to use the subway. Buchanan Street subway is roughly a ten-minute walk from the bus station (and less if you walk through John Lewis in the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, although the reception you’ll receive from staff for doing this may vary, especially depending on the size of your luggage).
If arriving at Prestwick Airport, a train service runs between the airport and the city centre and the journey takes around 45 minutes. Please see this page for more details: https://www.glasgowprestwick.com/passengers/getting-to-and-from-the-airport/train/
By bus
The bus services of Glasgow are reliable if not especially easy to navigate. The First company offers a route planning service on its website: https://www.firstgroup.com/greater-glasgow/planjourney/journey-planner/
You will arrive at Buchanan Bus Station, so to get to the campus and the conference venue you’ll have to take the subway from Buchanan Street (follow the instructions above).
