Conference location
The conference will be held at the Hilton Grosvenor in Glasgow’s West End, roughly ten minutes’ walk from the University. A drinks reception will be held on the first evening (Thursday 23rd August) in 4 University Gardens (Rooms 202-203), and the conference dinner will be at The Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton Lane on Friday 24th August.
Social Programme Locations
The Hilton Grosvenor is approximately a ten-minute walk from the venues which will host the drinks reception and the conference dinner. In order to get to 4 University Gardens for the Thursday drinks reception, walk along Byres Road until you reach Great George Street (with Pret a Manger on the corner), walk up the hill, and take the third road on the right onto Lilybank Gardens. Follow the pavement round to the left for University Gardens. No. 4 is one of the terraced houses on the higher level of the Gardens and is clearly marked. Please be aware that there is extensive building work underway on University Gardens which might hinder those with mobility issues and also means that the road is closed to traffic. Should this affect you, it would be easier to enter University Gardens from University Avenue. To get onto University Avenue on foot, rather than turning onto Great George Street, continue along Byres Road past Hillhead underground, then turn left at the traffic-light controlled crossroads. This is University Avenue on which most of the university’s buildings are located.
The Ubiquitous Chip, the venue for the Friday conference dinner, is located on Ashton Lane, which is very near University Gardens. As before, walk along Byres Road until you reach Hillhead subway, and 3 take the first road to the left (with Iceland on the corner). This cobbled street is Ashton Lane, and it soon turns right into the lane proper. When you reach this corner, the Ubiquitous Chip will be on your right.
